About this deal

For lateral heel flare, this creates a greater arc of motion for the foot to go through, which is compensated for by the foot moving through this motion faster than normal. I enjoyed the Cumulus 23 most on middle distance runs at easy or steady paces but if I only had one running shoe and it was the Cumulus 23, I’d be very happy with it because it can also handle a variety of different distances and paces. The high versatility of the Cumulus 23 means that it can handle easy runs, recovery runs, steady runs and it even has enough cushioning for long distances of 40+ kilometres.

At the same time, the softer GEL technology, which is located beneath the heal of the shoe, improves the shock-absorption while the FLYTEFOAM material ensures a more supporting and smooth run. I previously had Ascis gel cumulus 22 shoes and thought I had no more to do but get the next model but the Asics gel cumulus 23 shoes have given me a really sore lower back when walking or running any distance. There is a large amount of padding around the heel, which does an excellent job of protecting the calcaneus (heel bone) from the solid heel counter. Fans of the Cumulus 22 shouldn’t worry too much as I think Cumulus 23 only ironed out some rough edges without changing the inherent basic character of the Cumulus.Towards the rear, you get a traditional rigid internal heel counter sandwiched in ample padding that runs around the heel and ankle. You don’t have to worry about a “too soft” midsole, not enough bounce, too much bounce, not enough support, etc.

oz less weight and somewhat bouncier midsole are not significantly different enough to swing me towards Nimbus Lite 2 as I found its wider midfoot platform and shorter if similar flex pattern tended to get in the way of slower pace transitions and toe offs more than the Cumulus 23 did.The Cumulus 23 now has 3D Space Construction which are these small hexagonal shapes that look like honeycomb which are etched onto the top layer of the midsole. After that first impressive 10 kilometer run, I was excited to test the Cumulus 23 on a variety of different runs and paces. The flex grooves on the outsole of the Cumulus 23 have been made wider and deeper than the previous version so flexibility in the forefoot has been increased which is a welcome change. When I first saw pictures of the Cumulus 23 online, my initial thought was that it looks very similar to the Nimbus 23.

This shoe is perfect for runners on a budget who just want something that they can comfortably jog in day in and day out no matter what type of workout they are aiming for. The Asics Cumulus is an excellent option if you are looking for a traditional running shoe that doesn’t change much from year to year. Overall the upper fits slightly snug, is very secure, stretches to accommodate slightly different foot sizes (there is a wide version if necessary) and is very comfortable against bare skin. This is particularly important in the forefoot as the flex grooves need to line up with the metatarsophalangeal joints (toe joints). Billed as the more traditional trainer compared to the more cushioned/premium Nimbus series, the Cumulus has been a staple for those looking to rack up miles and get training in. Formed with a sustainable compound in the outsole, the ASICS LITE Rubber is soft and designed to improve durability in high-impact areas. Distance spikes best when up to a half a thumb's width between the end of the longest toe and the end of the shoe.
