About this deal

I read books ranging from non-fiction books on Kashmir to fiction books for book club; from popular books to books that lay abandoned on my bookshelf for years that I’d never got round to. Having been online for so much of my life, I have been exposed to, and learnt so much from, the people that have supported me along the way. Well, we’ll never be in our twenties in Ibiza again,” I whispered inwardly, before trying, “We had ‘ girl dinner’ last night” (a smorgasbord of sliced cheese, canned olives, tinned anchovies and aioli from the local supermarket).

Had been looking forward to this book all summer and was so happy it arrived just before I left for my beach holiday. She now creates content about books, sustainable fashion, modern day dilemmas, and everything in between, as well as her more recent love of painting.I have followed Oenone for a while and always found her hot takes informed, funny and well balanced.

A very modern journey not just of interest to her contemporaries, but also to older women like myself, unfamiliar with the social media influencing world. Her enlightening podcast Adulting has been downloaded over 4 million times, and she also hosts a monthly book club IRL that sells out in minutes. uk/landing-page/quercus/quercus-company-information/">The data controller is Quercus Editions Ltd. I read the book in one go, loving it and so much of Oenone's life and struggles reminded me of my own youth growing up. Bad Influence is a reflection on her career to date, candidly discussing the challenges of being criticised through a phone screen and the empowerment of creating a sense of community with her loyal fanbase. Candid throughout, felt like a really honest appraisal of the scene/industry/community told though her own experiences without being verbose.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. It effortlessly encapsulates the experience of a generation fumbling through life against a backdrop of social media and explores what it truly means to be 'an influencer' in today's digital age. But it seems that the generation before her own is “fixated” on that “heroin-chic physique” and fashions of the late 90s and early 2000s, leading her to wonder if diet culture has not disappeared, but has become more “insidious” instead. She also uses it as a chance to make new friends and show off her style; a style that has moved from fast fashion to a thriftier more sustainable fashion. Oenone has amassed a hugely loyal following of over 100k and has nurtured a tight knit community over years lived online. If you can't tell, I'm feeling slightly pumped up writing this review but nevertheless, the points still stand. Its a chance to feel a part of something bigger than yourself whilst simultaneously giving you the freedom to be yourself.
