About this deal

No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Many Jungian analysts would leave the Jungian institutes through the 70, 80s and 90s to start somatic and experiential psychology that used Jung as a map but the connection between the body and the brain as a technique. Hillman and Shamdasani explore a number of the issues in the Red Book —such as our relation with the dead, the figures of our dreams and fantasies, the nature of creative expression, the relation of psychology to art, narrative and storytelling, the significance of depth psychology as a cultural form, the legacy of Christianity, and our relation to the past—and examine the implications these have for our thinking today. In this book of dialogues, James Hillman and Sonu Shamdasani reassess psychology, history, and creativity through the lens of Carl Jung's Red Book. The years, of which I have spoken to you, when I pursued the inner images, were the most important time of my life.

G. Jung and the Founding of Analytical Psychology, which won the Gradiva Prize of the World Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis in 1999 for the best historical and biographical work. While the Red Book is quite a study in itself, the 'Lament of the Dead' assumes an understanding of this secret work of Jung's to move forward into the transcendence of the psyche, and that which lies beyond. There could be no better authors to explore the end of Jung's thought than James Hillman and Sonu Shamdasani. To be fair, Jung was developing his own personal cosmology while grappling with the notion that myths are universal. Not only is he also one of the foremost living experts on Jung, but as a scholar he does not threaten the famously egotistical Hillman as a competing interpreting psychologist.During this time I again made a list of the books that most influenced my life from early childhood until now.

Readers unfamiliar with the anecdotal material Greene presents may find interesting avenues to pursue, but they should beware of the author's quirky, sometimes misleading brush-stroke characterizations. The earliest conversations explicate Jung's work, providing a framework for exploring and understanding the Book. Lament is relevant because none of those realizations is somewhere that I ever would have gotten without the tradition that I am standing on top of.It was an attempt for Jung to heal himself in a time of pain and save himself from madness by giving voice to the forces underneath his partial psychotic episode. His new psychology never really came together coherently and he never found the technique to validate his instinct.
