About this deal

If talking assholes are your thing, then there’s another excellent performance in Naked Lunch that often goes overlooked. He also appreciated that he could act against puppets and practical effects rather then stop motion animation or CGI.

They are: The Assassination Bureau (1969), The Street Fighter Trilogy, Heart of Dragon (1985), Lovers Lane (2000), and Naked Lunch (1991). Extras like a conversation with Peter Weller or Tony Rayns talking about Burroughs are appetising enough, particularly when you consider how rarely Weller grants interviews these days. For items that are dispatched using our standard service, we ask that you wait 14 days from the date of dispatch before reporting any items as undelivered. Lee moves from being a timid insect exterminator to the man who wrote Naked Lunch – even the name “Bill Lee” is a pseudonym Burroughs used for his earliest work – and for the first time in biopic history, there is no sense of catharsis or achievement about this. Europe's busiest forums, with independent news and expert reviews, for TVs, Home Cinema, Hi-Fi, Movies, Gaming, Tech and more.

There's also a rather curious if provocative quasi-homage to Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo at play in terms of two characters played by the inimitable Judy Davis. Most of the book’s sexuality, though, is downplayed, perhaps because of its sadism as much as its homoeroticism.

Detail is tremendous with close up skin detail (of which there is plenty) such as pores, or stubble, veins in eyes etc. The recording was produced in 1995 for an audiobook and features music by Bill Frisell, Wayne Horvitz, and Eyvind Kang. The hallucinatory properties of the drug, sees Lee converse with all manner of creatures and objects, each trying to put their own stamp on his purpose, keeping the confusion and paranoia high so as to keep him on edge and thus direct his path. Weaving together elements of Burroughs' own remarkable biography with the content of the book, Cronenberg's film steps inside the body and mind of an author to depict the dangerous act of imagination itself from the inside out.Burroughs reading from his novel Naked Lunch; documentary film by Chris Rodley; audio commentary with director David Cronenberg and actor Peter Weller; and more. Burroughs, one of the icons of the Beat Generation and a man who experimented with virtually every drug he could get his hands on. Both provide great insights into the Beat movement, its jazz influences, the symbiosis of writing of writing and drug use in the work of author William S. Their only comment was to tell me their favourite quote from the book, which, when I checked, turned out to be on the first page. There’s also a booklet with new writing from Sargeant and Vanessa Morgan, plus archive writing from Chris Rodley and Cronenberg himself; enough to feed anyone’s addiction to facts about this strange, unique film.

Dialogue is again prioritised to the frontal array with plenty of ambience (the various street markets for example) from the surround channels really opening up the surround field.Criminally undervalued by the studio upon its release it was a box-office bomb that has garnered a cult following for its unusual subject matter, structure, and coherence.

For those not familiar with Burroughs’ life or his body work, both he and Weller go into great detail about how the film is a pastiche of prose and real life incidents. The supplemental features on the release include the film's original theatrical trailer; collection of artwork and photographs detailing the special effects by Chris Walas, Inc.rather cheekily inserted old school into supposed tv monitors, looking at Burroughs, Cronenberg and the film.
