About this deal

R Somers says: I tried to emulate my game on Brians style. I believe that he was the best Ball player of his time, even greater than BEETSON. He would commit players with ball skills and then get the ball away without being touched. I always thought that was the better way to play RL especially as a Front- Rower. He still remains strong in my memory along with Bill Kirkbride. (28/06/2014) He played right- prop in Widnes' 3-8 defeat by Leigh in the 1981–82 Lancashire Cup Final during the 1981–82 season at Central Park, Wigan on Saturday 26 September 1981.

One of the all-time great finishers. Give him half-an-inch and he would squeeze into the corner, don't worry about that." a b "Great Britain Statistics at englandrl.co.uk". englandrl.co.uk. 31 December 2011. Archived from the original on 30 November 1994 . Retrieved 1 January 2012. A great ball-handler who could find himself in the most difficult positions but then twist and turn and give you the sweetest off-load. It was Brian's inside pass that put me through for the decisive try." An amazing player. Very tall for a stand-off, sleek and with tremendous balance. I always admired the way he could swerve around people." There’s just a certain charm about watching a team make their way up the rungs of the ladder of sporting success rapidly but with a great sense of steadiness. Whether it may be the case of watching Leicester City transforming into consistent European football mainstays or perhaps watching the Cleveland Cavaliers of the mid-to-late 2000s, there’s this unique sense of warmth that one feels of seeing a strong unit build up right before your very eyes. For a sports fan, few things come close in replicating that sensation! Passed away peacefully following a long illness, surrounded by his loving family, on the 5th of November 2021, aged 83 years. John had a very dry sense of humour. Great upper-body strength and adept at off-loading." A legend in his playing days with Warrington after signing from junior club Orford Tannery in 1952, the winger scored 135 tries in 282 appearances for the Wire before leaving for Barrow in 1963. Challinor made three appearances for Great Britain, including the famous 1958 Test in Brisbane that the Lions won 25-18 despite several key figures - including Challinor - playing in extreme pain after suffering injuries in the early part of the match. Challinor moved into coaching after retiring and led GB to triumph in France. He died of cancer in 1976 aged just 42. a b "Coach Statistics at rugbyleagueproject.org". rugbyleagueproject.org. 31 December 2017 . Retrieved 1 January 2018.
