About this deal

Improved sleep quality: Blue light can disrupt our natural sleep-wake cycle, making it harder for us to fall asleep at night. By wearing blue light glasses, we can reduce our exposure to blue light and improve our sleep quality. Personally, I don't always want technical riding sunglasses in the same way that I don't always want to wear Lycra or use clipless pedals. Sometimes I like to ride my bike without – controversial, this one – actually looking like I'm riding my bike when I'm not on it, and these glasses fit in with that narrative very nicely. Better vision: Blue light can cause glare and impair our vision, especially when driving at night. Blue light glasses can help reduce glare and improve our vision in these situations. Suitability: Trail activities ranging from hiking to biking at sea level and in lower hills, plus general beach and bar wear Lens colors: New Blue / Smoke Yellow / Smoke Red / Smoke Yellow / Smoke Bright Blue / Smoke / Brown / Clear / Smoke

At a budget price point, you aren't going to get the best optics in terms of contrast and glare reduction. The kind of lenses that vividly enhance every detail on your ride in all light conditions cost a lot of money. We researched other brands and found that they were appalling quality straight out of the box and often more expensive too. The force in grams required to pull the sunglasses from the wearer’s head, using luggage scale attached to the central nose bridge One thing to note is that, like most photochromic glasses, these lenses are responding to levels of ultraviolet light. This can have a couple of unintended consequences if you're not expecting them. First, they don't work when you're behind glass – so these won't offer much protection when you're in a car. Second, there are occasional overcast days when it is relatively dark but still high in UV, and on these days the lenses can darken more than you'd perhaps like them to. I only experienced this once or twice when testing, and it really wasn't a big issue. Only once did I stash the glasses because they got a bit darker than I'd have liked. Tired of sunglasses that pull your hair when you put them on or take them off? Swank's integrated hinge is designed with your comfort in mind. It glides on smoothly without any hair-snagging, ensuring you're always ready to seize the day.

Given the quality – and that they're currently available considerably below RRP – it's not hard to recommend the Tifosis for all-day riding. Verdict These Tifosi Slice Fototec Light Night Lens sunglasses offer excellent all-round visibility thanks to their frameless design, and the tint range of the photochromatic lens covers the majority of riding conditions even into the darkness. The wind can whip around the sides a bit, though, which won't please hayfever sufferers or those with sensitive eyes. With a warm brown tint, they provided good definition with little distortion, and transmission of just 11%. The polarization was effective, cutting out 69% of reflected glare (a little shy of their claimed 80%). Given the price and strong all-round performance it’s hard to see how you could go wrong with these. The nose and temple grips keep them securely in place, no matter how lumpy the landscape I’ve been running and riding over became, and for the most part they’ve been pretty comfortable to wear for reasonably long periods of time – the hydrophilic nose grips seem to pinch slightly after while, but this can be relieved by lifting the glasses momentarily.

Extremely comfortable to wear for long periods, these would be great everyday sunglasses that also have surprisingly good grip. A polarization score of 74.6% nudges these ahead of the rest, although this is on slightly higher transmission of 13.8%.Style: Flatter ‘lifestyle’ sunglasses (very on trend this year), or sportier wrap-around glasses that cover more of your vision Category 1 lenses let in 43 to 80 per cent of light. They are regularly coloured lenses, such as bright yellow, that aim to increase contrast on cloudy days. The Tifosi Alliant Light Night Fototec sunglasses are well vented and well made, with photochromic lenses that make them suitable for a very broad range of conditions. The long, curved arms mean they don't sit comfortably with every helmet, but as long as they work with yours, these are a solid choice for all-day riding. When it comes to lenses, you get what you pay for on the whole, and cheaper glasses will save in this area, as well as the quality of their construction. We were surprised on both counts, however, by the cheapest pair on test from Tribord, which performed consistently well in all areas, to make it the test winner.

When buying sunglasses, there are plenty of features and variables to consider that will make one pair better for you than another. Things like adjustability, weight, style, size, colour, and added features like replacement lenses will all carry a certain amount of weight, and by understanding how each will affect your ride, you can make an informed decision on what's the best. The weight and dimensions of each pair, including how flat or wrapped around they are, measuring the linear distance from the nose bridge to a line between the rear edge of the lenses They offer no side protection from glare, which might be an issue in some circumstances, but this means there’s a good amount of ventilation, and I haven’t experienced any major fogging problems. LENS TECHNOLOGY ➤ Shatterproof polycarbonate lenses with 100% UVA / UVB protection from harmful UV Rays

Category 0 lenses are either clear or have a very light tint, letting in between 80 and 100 per cent of light. They are best for night riding when light is already low. What’s more, the non-slip nose pad ensures a comfortable fit, which is crucial for sports activities that involve a lot of movement. The lightweight frame also makes these sunglasses an excellent choice for extended wear. Value Polarization, by measuring the LUX reduction between vertically and horizontally rotated lenses, whilst aimed at a flat metal surface reflecting direct sunlight, replicating water glare With a light transmission range from 27.7% to 75.9%, the Tifosis can be used in complete darkness and all but the brightest summer sunshine, coping with the changing weather conditions that can happen during a ride, or the transition between sunshine and shade. Grip on the head was reasonable but not much more than those without rubber, the grips perhaps compensating for the wider more comfortable fit. Style wise, these might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they do their job well and would double up for other sports. Prescription lenses: If you wear prescription glasses, you will need a pair of sunglasses that can be fitted with prescription lenses.
